Six of the Best

Now, you probably thought Madame DeFarge was a Dickensian invention from his Tale of Two Cities, who knitted at the foot of the guillotine as the upper classes were led to their messy deaths at the hands of the good Dr. Guillotin's invention. But you'd be wrong. She is not a hatchet-faced tricoteuse, but rather an astute and highly literate servant of the peepul, and she's jolly well tagged me to list six things or habits of no real importance about myself, thus:

1) Put the link of the person who tagged you on your blog. Yep, done that.

2)Write the rules. Yep, done that too.

3) Mention 6 things or habits of no real importance about you. Please see below.

4) Tag 6 persons adding their links directly.

5) Alert the persons that you tagged them.

Here are my Six Things:

(i) My first soft toy was a stuffed Eeyore, whom I insisted upon calling Gooby.

(ii) I have a particular interest in the seventeenth century diarist and Bon Viveur John Aubrey. It could be something to do with us sharing a birthday. Albeit he was born before 1752 when the calendar changed. So we don't really share a birthday at all.

(iii) I am almost totally omnivorous, but the one thing in the world I will not eat is a toffee apple.

(iv) I have just eaten half a bar of Milka chocolate. It is currently a bargain at 99p at W.H.Smith.

(v) My hair is now the longest it has been in more than 33 years.

(vi) I have never ridden a horse.

And now, it's time to tag...

Rob - For a Canadian perspective on the ordinary.

Comedy Goddess - Because I think she will come up with some very quirky answers.

Stevyn - For an ex-pat Cornish writer's sextet of mundanities.

Derrick - He's led such an interesting life; now let's hear the dull stuff!

John Soanes - Because This Oscar Wilde Lookalike Can Always Be Relied Upon For An Apt Comment...And Lots Of Capital Letters.

Raph - Because giraffes must sometimes encounter les choses ordinaires.

Over to you, boys and girls!

No argument about the capitals tendency in the titles! Anyway, flattered to be tagged, will respond in suitable fashion!

Thanks John. I'll look forward to it!

I am amazed, Chris - is it possible to eat only half a bar of chocolate? Were you interrupted? Was there something wrong with it?

You mentioned the length of your hair in a previous post, so it must be even longer now ... I am intrigued. Do you have a target length? I have visions of you having to employ a page to hold the ends off the floor as you walk around.

Thank you for tagging me! I will happily talk about 6 'choses ordinaires'. Eleanor at Thatchwick Cottage tagged me with some different questions several days ago, so I will combine the two tags in either my next post or the one after!

Ah, Raph!

I should have pointed out that the other half was consumed by Mrs. H.

As regards the hair, it's now perilously close to needing a trim! I just need to find a reliable and (let's not deny it) reasonably priced gents' barber in this new town of mine.

I shall look forward to reading your list in due course.

Hi Chris,

THANKS! You may be a life saver and have saved me from screen block or you may have condemned your readers to death by boredom!

Derrick, you do yourself a disservice! I'm sure even your dull stuff will be interesting!

Several things.

1) Gooby is a great name. Fair play my friend.

2) Regarding point (ii) you clearly are a genius. That made me laugh out loud in a crowded pub. Good job it was already noisy otherwise I'd be kicked out for rowdy behaviour.

3) You and I are exact opposites. The only thing I eat is toffee apples...

Hi again Mo.

(1) Gooby sounds like a word you'd use to describe a particularly glutinous piece of toffee that resolutely remains stuck to the roof of your mouth.

(2) I am glad to have afforded you a little mirth. Aubrey was, in fact, a most amusing, but maggotie-headed gent.

(3) Only toffee apples? Now you're scaring me. You don't work at a funfair, do you?

Oh, don't have a haircut! If you replace your photo, as you mentioned in your comment on your last post, you can put a lengthily coiffured one in! Or a series ...

Chris Hale said...

Raph - forget the haircut; I'll go for a seventies footballer-style perm instead!

Chris - wot a star you are. But I'm not sure that I can continue your chumship now that I know you don't like toffee apples. This may be a dealbreaker. I am partial to these sweety snacks (containing one of my five a day), so we may have to agree to disagree.

MDF - Perhaps I'll take a teeny nibble one day. Why, only today, I actually picked one up in Sainsbury's, looked at it, and put it down again.

Now, a chocolate apple...
